On the consumer end of the spectrum, customers receiving internet services through these conglomerates would also have to pay premium prices for faster unrestricted speeds and content, essentially creating a slow lane and a fast lane for both content providers and those who utilize their content.
Net Neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites. Because of a huge rallying of support among consumer groups and activists alike the Federal Communications Commision has now started to support Net Neutrality and keeping the Internet free which is a big swing from it’s position a year ago.
The FCC is creating new laws that will be designed to keep the free flow of online ideas and content on an even and level playing field. By protecting the consumer from another multi-billion dollar corporate shakedown the government supported by President Obama has really stuck up for the little guy by changing regulations regarding the dissemination and distribution of online content.
If Net Neutrality becomes the way of the future our information superhighway will not be subject to corporate greed and an over-obsession with trying to rake in undeserved profits. This will effect everyone who currently or in the future will be using the internet to exchange ideas and content for years to come.
